One-Page Websites for Local Businesses

A landscaping company owner came to me wanting a website. "How many pages do I need?" he asked. I walked through his business: he offered three main services, worked in one city, and wanted customers to call for quotes. "Honestly?" I said. "You could do this all on one page." He looked skeptical. Three months later, he called to tell me his phone was ringing daily with new customers who found his simple, focused one-page site.

Sometimes Less Really Is More

Multi-page websites make sense for businesses with lots of different services, multiple locations, or extensive product catalogs. But if you're a contractor, consultant, personal trainer, photographer, or local service provider? You might be overcomplicating things.

A one-page website tells your complete story in one smooth scroll: here's what I do, here's why I'm good at it, here's what others say about me, and here's how to hire me. No clicking around. No getting lost in navigation. Just a clear path from "who is this?" to "I'm calling them."

That landscaper's site starts with a beautiful photo of a yard he transformed. You scroll down and see his three services explained clearly. Scroll more and you're reading reviews from happy customers. Keep going and there's a big, obvious contact form. Simple. Effective. Converting visitors into calls.

What Goes on a One-Page Site?

Think of your one-page website like an elevator pitch that someone can revisit. You need these sections, in roughly this order:

1. Strong opening: Immediately answer "what do you do and who do you help?" The landscaper's says "Professional landscaping for homeowners in Springfield." Clear. Direct. No confusion.

2. Your services: Three to five key things you offer. Don't list 20 services—pick your money-makers and feature those.

3. Why trust you: This could be years in business, certifications, awards, or just a genuine "about me" that shows you're a real person who cares about quality work.

4. Social proof: Reviews and testimonials from actual customers. Even three to four good reviews build massive credibility.

5. Clear next step: Phone number big and prominent. Contact form that's simple to fill out. Maybe both. Make it brain-dead easy for customers to reach you.

One-Page Sites Work Great on Phones

Most local searches happen on mobile. Someone's looking for a landscaper while standing in their overgrown yard. They're not going to navigate through five pages on a tiny screen. They're going to scroll, and one-page sites are built for scrolling.

Plus, one-page sites load fast. No waiting for new pages to load as you navigate. Everything's right there, ready to scroll through. For mobile users making quick decisions, that speed and simplicity wins.

Can One-Page Sites Rank on Google?

People worry about this. "Won't Google prefer sites with more pages?" Not necessarily. Google cares about relevance, quality, and user experience. A focused one-page site that perfectly answers a local search query can absolutely outrank bloated multi-page sites.

The key is focus. That landscaper's site targets one service area (Springfield) and one main offering (residential landscaping). His content mentions his city naturally throughout. He's got his address and phone number clearly listed. Google knows exactly what he does and where he does it.

One-page SEO tip: Use clear section headings that include your service and location. "Springfield Lawn Care Services" or "Custom Landscaping in Springfield" as actual headings help Google understand what you offer and where.

When Should You Choose Multi-Page Instead?

One-page sites aren't always the answer. If you serve multiple distinct cities, you probably need separate location pages. If you offer very different services that each need detailed explanations, multi-page makes sense. If you want a blog to attract organic traffic, you'll need multiple pages.

But for many local businesses—especially those just getting started online—a well-executed one-page site gets you online fast, keeps costs down, and gives customers exactly what they need to choose you.

At Malmquist Consulting, we build both one-page and multi-page websites starting at $500. We'll talk through your business and recommend which approach makes the most sense for your specific situation. Sometimes simple is perfect. Sometimes you need more. Let's figure out what's right for you.
